This powerful tool integrates Meshy's AI-driven 3D model generation directly into Unity, letting you create, preview, refine, and download high-resolution .FBX models—all from the editor. Perfect for game developers, hobbyists, and enthusiasts.
Whether you’re prototyping characters or building immersive worlds, UMesh supplies an easy to use interface for AI-powered 3D creation. No extra plugins required. Works natively with Unity’s FBX importer (Binary .FBX files).
What's Included:
♦ Text-to-3D: Send text prompts to Meshy AI to generate 3D models on-the-fly. Generation does not happen in Unity, so your hands are free!
♦ Model Management: Generate, refine, and instantiate models with ease.
♦ Texture Support: Downloads and assigns textures to your .FBX models automatically.
♦ Editor-Friendly: No runtime dependencies—just drag, drop, or spawn with a click.
Get Started:
♦ Component: Import the asset, then go to Tools > UMesh > Generation Portal to spawn a GameObject with the UMeshPlugin component.
♦ API Key: You will need to set your API Key by going to Tools > UMesh > API Key. Enter your key and press 'Save'. ( You can grab your api key from the Meshy website: sign up, click "API" at the top, then "Create API Key").
♦ Data Storage: Lastly, press "Create New Data Container" (you can specify a data path if you choose). This container holds informational regarding our tasks that are processed by the plugin.
♦ Create: Start generating! Run multiple tasks with Meshy Pro (one at a time otherwise). Generation takes a minute or two, so you can multitask and check back when ready. Remember, your hands are free; so you can even close the editor if you had to.
♦ Categories: Categories let you orginize tasks if you're handling a lot.
Key Details:
♦ Credits: Each "Generate New Model", and "Refine" requests cost Meshy credits. As of writing this the costs are 2 and 5, respectively. 200 credits are awarded for free each month, resetting on the first of each month. Additional credits may be purchased.
♦ Task Recovery: If you accidentally remove a task or for some reason they don't show up in the Inspector, the task_IDs are stored in the TaskIDs folder; so you can copy it and manually add a new 'task', supplying the id, or 'load missing tasks'. The Inspector will update with this information.
♦ Model Retention: Meshy will only hold information regarding tasks for a finite amount of time (typically 3 days); during this time be sure to download and backup your models. After the time expires you will no longer be able to download the model associated with that task; resulting in an error when requested.
♦ Optimization: Generated models may be higher resolution than desired for game development. It may be ideal to utilize generated models for prototyping, or to use a mesh decimater or imposter tool.
